On September 25th, 2006, my kids along with several of their friends and I attended an Oriole/Red Sox game. Although I’ve been to many games at Camden Yards, I wasn’t ready for what I saw on that Saturday afternoon.

When we first pulled in to the parking lot we noticed several Boston fans and of course we gave them a hard time (good naturedly of course). As we approached the stadium we were appalled at a sight I hope I never see again. Red Sox fans were everywhere! For a moment I thought I was somehow transported to Fenway Park. We just looked at each other with our mouths agape. I was dumbfounded and felt like I had just been punched in the stomach. Where were our fans?

As the game progressed and the shock began to wear off anger took it’s place. How did this happen? Who the hell is responsible for this nightmare from which there is no waking up? Initially I thought the fans of Bawlmer were to blame but then I knew that wasn’t the case. I go way back with this town’s sports history, being a former Colt fan and a lifetime O’s fan. I remember the raucous crowds on 33rd street and Wild Bill.
No it’s not us. Who then? Then it dawned on me. I had to look no further than the owner’s box. One person had brought this dark cloud over this gem of a ballpark in Charm City. Only one person shoulders the blame for destroying a once proud franchise.

Peter Angelos.

After several days of fuming over this I began to write a few words down as I often do and eventually it became the song “Let Go Of Them O’s (Mr. Angelos)”. I did my best to try and capture my feelings and what I believe is the sentiment of Oriole fans everywhere.

Since 2006 I have been interviewed by several radio stations, articles have appeared in The Baltimore Sun, The New York Times, ESPN.com, Press Box, The Towson Times, and The Examiner. I want to thank Bob Haynie @WNST 1570 AM for allowing me to come on his show and get the word out to Orioles fans.
